“Litter Box Training for Cats: How to Set Up a Stress-Free Environment”

Cats naturally prefer to bury their waste, which makes litter box training easier than most people expect. Start by choosing a litter box that is large enough for your cat to turn around comfortably. Place it in a quiet location away from noisy appliances and heavy foot traffic.

Cats are sensitive to scents. Using an unscented, clumping litter helps them feel safe and encourages consistent use. If you have multiple cats, provide one litter box per cat plus one extra. Overcrowded litter boxes can lead to stress and inappropriate elimination.

Clean the box daily. Cats may avoid a dirty box, which leads to accidents around the home. Scoop waste every day and replace all the litter at least once a week. When the litter box feels clean and accessible, cats are naturally motivated to use it consistently.
